| Giovanni Trapattoni can be satisfied with this 1-1 friendly draw against Turkey as debutante Antonio Di Natale was particularly impressive.
Trap fielded an experimental side - partly due to injuries for Francesco Totti, Alessandro Nesta, Gennaro Gattuso, Marco Materazzi, Christian Panucci and Eugenio Corini.
There were four debutantes in the starting eleven: Empoli forward Antonio Di Natale, Bologna's 31-year-old winger Carlo Nervo, Juventus defender Alessandro Birindelli and Chievo midfielder Simone Perrotta.
Turkey finished third in this summers' World Cup and fielded practically a full-strength side for this friendly test. Inter midfielders Okan Buruk and Emre are familiar faces to Serie A.
The money raised from this friendly will go to the nearby town of San Giuliano di Puglia, hit by a recent earthquake.
The Azzurri had an enthusiastic start and Alessandro Del Piero curled their first effort over the bar before Di Natale's header was cleared.
Empoli's Di Natale played out wide on the right and he provided a good opportunity for fellow debutante Nervo, but the low drive was too central to trouble Omer.
Turkey's first shot on goal was on 20 minutes, but Gianluigi Buffon was attentive on the Ilhan Mansiz header.
Italy had the better of the first half and Omer took two touches to get a fierce Christian Vieri effort under control.
However, the Turks took their chances better and on 28 minutes Nerazzurri star Emre caught the defence napping to score a splendid solo effort. He dribbled past several players before rifling a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
Di Natale remained the most dangerous player for the Azzurri and often got past his marker down the right flank.
The equaliser eventually came ten minutes later when Christian Vieri gathered a Nervo through ball down the left and after the goalkeeper tried to close him down slid an angled drive into the empty net from a tricky angle. The Inter striker has netted 15 goals in a total of 30 internationals.
Trapattoni made three substitutions at half-time, including Pippo Inzaghi for goalscorer Vieri and 'keeper Francesco Toldo in place of Buffon.
Milan hitman Inzaghi had the first real chance of the second half set up by the lively Di Natale, but he ballooned it over the bar.
Ilhan also turned a good opportunity wide of the near post soon after, while new entry Marco Di Vaio found space very well but his finish was not up to scratch.
Chievo defender Nicola Legrottaglie was given his international debut as a substitute.
The best chance - perhaps of the entire game - came six minutes from time. A Perrotta centre found Inzaghi completely unmarked eight yards out, but he completely mistimed his free header and consequently only scuffed the ball.
Moments later Inzaghi had another splendid opportunity but his angled drive shaved the base of the far post.
