Cicinho reassures fans
Monday 9 February, 2009

Roma defender Cicinho breathed a sigh of relief this morning when scans revealed the knee injury he suffered yesterday is not as bad as first thought.

The Brazilian full-back opened the scoring in Roma's 3-0 win over Genoa but was later stretchered off with suspected knee ligament damage.

“Thank God the tear isn't that bad,” Cicinho told Globoesporte.com. “The doctor explained to me that having had a previous operation on my knee, the ligament is now more elastic.”

Cicinho first suffered a serious knee injury while at Real Madrid in 2007 and was ruled out of action for six months.

“I am lucky to have a friend who is a physiotherapist,” the 28-year-old revealed. “I will train on a full-time basis with him so I can return as soon as possible.

“I am sorry that I have to be out at this moment in time, but there is nothing else I can do. The only thing that interests me is getting back to full fitness quickly.”

Cicinho is expected to miss Roma's Champions League tie with Arsenal later this month, prompting Coach Luciano Spalletti to reconsider Christian Panucci.

Panucci has been frozen out of the squad ever since he refused to sit on the bench when Roma played Napoli on January 25.
