Ranieri: Juve are back!
Sunday 8 February, 2009

Claudio Ranieri is confident Juventus are “back on track” with their hard-fought win at Catania, achieved with 10 men for almost the entire match.

Vincenzo Iaquinta had opened the scoring only to be sent off for a second bookable offence moments later, but Christian Poulsen came off the bench to secure a 2-1 victory in stoppages.

“We had lost our shape, but we are finding it again,” smiled the Coach, who ends a run of two straight Serie A defeats.

“I was trying to find my team, which had gone missing in recent games and above all our shape and balance.

“Today we played well with 10 men against 11 and a Catania side that never gave up. Poulsen is recovering well and already impressed me against Napoli in the Coppa Italia.”

Ranieri left Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet on the bench for the trip to Sicily and explained his decisions.

“Trezeguet is coming back from a long lay-off and had already played an hour on Wednesday in the Coppa Italia.

“Del Piero has played two excellent games, but I thought it right to give Iaquinta a chance, as he is finding his form again.”

Amauri has not scored yet in 2009, but provided the assist for Poulsen's goal this afternoon.

“Our problem is not scoring goals,” assured the Coach. “We should erect a statue in Amauri's honour for the way he kept the game alive right to the end.

“No, our problem is that we give goals away too cheaply and at times we lose our unity. Sooner or later we do get a goal.”

This victory and Milan's 1-1 draw at Reggina last night put Juventus back in second place.
