Having surprised Fiorentina and Siena, Lecce boss Mario Beretta now aims to cause another shock against leaders Inter this afternoon.
“Inter are having a remarkable season. They know how to suffer under pressure and in moments of difficulty all their players show a notable spirit of sacrifice.”
The 17.00 UK time kick-off starts Serie A Week 23 at the Stadio Via del Mare, but there is no fear in the tactician’s voice.
“We must play this match with a clear head and courage,” Beretta told the official club website.
“We’re ready to make the most of the situations we create, knowing full well we are facing a great squad.
“It will be important to avoid making mistakes and try not to be under too much pressure, because otherwise it will be very difficult to bring home a positive result.”
Lecce are battling against relegation, but recent surprise wins away to Fiorentina and Siena sides with some of the strongest home records in the Division show they can rise to the big occasion.
“We are in good condition. We have played three games in the last eight days and played with 10 men for an hour in the last one,” Beretta said of the midweek 2-1 triumph in Siena despite Guillermo Giacomazzi’s dismissal.
“There is nothing better than a victory for helping you recharge your batteries. The new arrivals are working hard and trying to understand our system as quickly as they can. They have quality and that helps the learning process.”
One of those new signings, Ndiaye Papa Waigo, could be used in a trequartista role behind the two strikers Javier Castillo and Simone Tiribocchi.
Giacomazzi is suspended due to that red card at Siena, while Gianni Munari and Giuseppe Vives are injured. Brazilian Edinho made his debut last week and could be given a starting slot.
