Legrottaglie rallies Juve
Thursday 5 February, 2009

Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie has compared Sunday's opponents Catania to Real Madrid in order to get a rise out of his teammates.

The 32-year-old insists Juventus can turn their season around by beating Catania as they did when they defeated Real Madrid earlier in the campaign.

Juventus have lost their last two games in Serie A and are now in third place, seven points behind leaders Inter.

“From Sunday onwards we will put Juventus back on track,” Legrottaglie said in an interview with Turin-based daily Tuttosport.

“Like a year ago, you'll see the real Juventus. Like against Real Madrid in October, Catania can also be the turning of our season.

“Enough with these rest days between games. We want to start again and recover points,” Legrottaglie announced in rousing style.

The former Bari centre-back went on to ask Juventus fans to get behind the team and help them win.

“Enough with the whistling,” he said. “Sometimes you find people only come to the stadium to criticise, but the fans should help you when you are in difficulty.

“Lads, if we want to win something, surely we want to win it together. The fans should always be close to us.”

Legrottaglie then turned to Juventus' victory against Napoli last night, which saw them progress to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

The Bianconeri had two goals disallowed and ultimately needed penalties to dispatch of their opponents and go through to the next round of the competition.

“This victory, even if it arrived on penalties, can also be a turning point,” Legrottaglie admitted, before once again returning to talk about the fans.

“If the supporters are excited about getting to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, imagine how they'll feel if we progress in the Champions League.”

Juventus travel to London later this month where they will face Chelsea in Round Two of the Champions League.

Lazio await them in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia. Inter and Sampdoria are the other two remaining teams in the competition.
