Sam Dalla Bona has walked out on Napoli by slamming Coach Edy Reja, but West Ham quickly closed the door on the free agent.
The former Chelsea star has never made an impact in Serie A and had disappeared on to the sidelines during his stay at Napoli.
Unable to find a new club during the January transfer window, he has officially rescinded his contract by mutual consent.
“The first year I played well and contributed to Napoli’s return to the top flight, then I started to have less and less space, but in all honesty I never understood why,” the midfielder told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“Maybe I just didn’t have the best rapport with Reja. I have spoken to [Gianfranco] Zola and hope to return to London. I await his response.”
A switch to West Ham United seemed certain, but this evening Hammers director Gianluca Nani dashed this dream.
“I’m sorry, but there is no chance that Dalla Bona could come to play for West Ham,” Nani told the same radio station.
“He is not a part of our plans. I am sorry to spoil his dream, but he could only come here to train with us.”
Dalla Bona has also played for Milan, Lecce and Bologna.
