Cairo expects signing surprises
Monday 2 February, 2009

Torino President Urbano Cairo expects the Granata to sign two players before the January transfer window closes this evening.

Torino are second from bottom in Serie A despite a valiant 1-1 draw with Inter at the weekend and need reinforcements if they are to survive.

“Rino Foschi [the Granata’s director of sport] has worked a lot in recent weeks,” Cairo explained. “He has sown several seeds, seeds that we could collect again in the next few hours.

“I don’t want to disappoint anyone, but we are doing all we can. Foschi is working very well and has complete autonomy.

“Above all, Foschi has great capabilities and I am behind him. I have put important economic possibilities at his disposal.

“We will not buy for the sake of buying,” said Cairo. “Quality, not quantity, is what counts. The new arrivals will add value to the team.”

Cairo did admit, though, that while the club will do everything to strengthen itself in the next few hours, nothing is certain.

“There could be a couple of surprises,” he concluded. “Even if no-one were to arrive, the team has shown that it is valid as it is and has every possibility of saving itself.”

Torino are back in action this weekend when they host Chievo who are level on points with them in the table.
