Julio Cesar has kept out Manchester United’s best, but admits he fears Sunday’s showdown with Francesco Totti.
“Who would I cut out of the Roma squad between Totti, Julio Baptista and Mirko Vucinic? That’s easy, I’d love to leave Totti out, as he always scores against me!” said the Inter goalkeeper.
“Mind you, he won’t put the ball past me this Sunday…”
The Giallorossi captain has already put four goals past Julio Cesar during his career and hopes to add to the tally, although Totti is a major injury doubt after limping out of training today with a knee problem.
It is another stern test for the goalkeeper following his marvellous performance in a 0-0 Champions League draw with United.
“I am happy that I was voted the best player of the game, but I would have preferred to not play so well and see Inter beat Manchester United,” he told Studio Sport.
He is widely considered to be the best goalkeeper in Serie A right now, as Gianluigi Buffon recovers from a long injury lay-off, and faces another Selecao man in Roma’s Alexander Doni.
“A while ago in Europe they always tried to sign a Brazilian striker or midfielder, but now many clubs are interested in goalkeepers.
“It is a great thing for us, as every year we open up new doors for more Brazilian shot-stoppers to make their mark.”
Nicola Rizzoli has been picked to officiate Sunday night’s showdown at San Siro. The last time he refereed an Inter game, it was the 3-1 defeat at Atalanta.
