Cesare Prandelli has blamed Fiorentina's UEFA Cup demise at the hands of Ajax on a post at the Amsterdam Arena.
The Viola dominated both legs against their Dutch opponents, but they failed to take their chances and lost 2-1 on aggregate after shipping a late goal in Holland.
Of Fiorentina's near misses last night, defender Alessandro Gamberini came the closest when he struck the post.
“There's nothing for me to say really, except that we are out because of a post,” Prandelli maintained after the final whistle.
“We played quite a careful game and they didn't threaten much, even after we went ahead, but luck was not on our side.
“We exit the competition with our heads held high. From now on we need to continue playing well in the League.
“I am still feeling some bitterness because we were clearly superior to Ajax, but we must focus on Serie A where we can still do great things this season,” he concluded.
Fiorentina reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup last term but were beaten by Rangers.
