Fiorentina director of football Pantaleo Corvino is adamant the Viola were sportsmanlike in their 2-1 victory over Chievo yesterday.
Fiorentina were trailing 1-0 after the 13th minute but came back to win following late goals from Alberto Gilardino and Adrian Mutu.
Mutu got the winner in the 94th minute with a shot from just outside the box, plunging relegation threatened Chievo into despair.
When the Romanian went in a little hard on Davide Mandelli seconds later, the Chievo players started a half-hearted brawl and accused Fiorentina of unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Chievo's anger is understandable, Corvino explained. But there was nothing unsportsmanlike in the challenge between Mutu and Mandelli.
Our players did well to find strength at the very last moment. It was the last offensive play of the game and Fiorentina did well to exploit it. This team never betrays you, Corvino concluded.
Fiorentina are now fourth in Serie A and travel to Reggina next weekend. They are unbeaten in their last four games.
