Cesare Prandelli admits Fiorentina are riding their luck and he will have to make drastic cuts to the team.
For the second week on the trot the Tuscans have scored with the last kick of the game after trailing until late on.
“Fiorentina’s last five results read like Scudetto form with four wins and a draw,” smiled Prandelli after the 2-1 victory over Chievo.
“The performances, however, say anything but. We have been very fortunate, but above all our games have been decided by champions. We could have come away with much, much less against Lazio, Genoa and Chievo.”
With Genoa they were trailing 3-0 to equalise with Adrian Mutu’s hat-trick, while this afternoon Mutu was again on target for a dramatic winner.
“It’s great in terms of results, but sooner or later our luck will run out and that is when we need the real Fiorentina back. The race for fourth is still long and increasingly tight.”
Genoa and Roma are trailing the Viola by a point and until Mutu’s goal today, the Rossoblu were in fourth position.
“The table says one thing, what happens on the pitch says another. Tactically something is not working and I have to make certain decisions. [Manuel] Pasqual plays better than [Juan Manuel] Vargas right now and guarantees more in both defence and attack.
“[Stevan] Jovetic struggles too much in the trequartista role and cannot play there, at least until the end of the season. When we redesign Fiorentina in the summer, then perhaps we can perfect Jovetic’s position.”
