Philippe Mexes reassures Roma fans on the injury situation and guarantees “a great game against Arsenal.”
The defender required treatment during the 1-0 win over Siena when he fell awkwardly on to his right shoulder.
“I just sprained it a bit. The important thing is we got the three points. I’m very happy, as it wasn’t easy after the heavy defeat to Atalanta. We struggled, but emerged with our heads held high.”
It was particularly worrying to see Mexes hurt, as teammates Juan and Cicinho went off injured and the former is a doubt for the Champions League showdown with Arsenal.
“We will give everything we have to win. We don’t need any particular motivational tool, as we will arrive at the Emirates ready.
“I can guarantee a great game and the utmost concentration from the Roma players so we can go as far as possible in this competition.”
The injury situation could well mean Mexes has to lead an all new defence with Souleymane Diamoutene and Marco Motta.
The two January signings are new to the Champions League and played together for the first time during the second half of the Siena game.
“They are two great players and I am happy for them,” smiled the Frenchman. “It isn’t easy to play at the Olimpico.
“I hope Juan has not hurt himself too badly. Against Siena we were also missing [Daniele] De Rossi and [Simone] Perrotta on bans, so it’s not easy to play without them.
“We hope to get [Jeremy] Menez and a few others fit for Tuesday so we can keep winning games.”
