Ancelotti: A win can cure Milan
Saturday 21 February, 2009

Carlo Ancelotti admires Cagliari, but warns Milan need a victory tomorrow, even if Kaka, Ronaldinho and Andriy Shevchenko are out.

The Rossoneri have dropped 11 points behind leaders Inter after their derby defeat last week and were held 1-1 at Werder Bremen in the UEFA Cup midweek.

“This is an important time of the season for Milan, as we need to get back on track in Serie A and rediscover our confidence so we can end the season among the top spots,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Milan have changed the trend from the first half of the season, as the team is playing better, we just need more concentration in certain moments.”

The test with Cagliari will be a tough one, as the Sardinians have already stalled the Rossoneri earlier this term and are now in seventh place.

“Cagliari are an excellent squad and have done very well up until now, especially away from home. Tomorrow's tie will be delicate and we have to approach it the right way.

“We need a victory in Serie A. I fear this match because our opponents are strong and will come here to play an open game. Compared to our last meeting, they have gained in self-belief.”

Ancelotti confirmed that Kaka and Andriy Shevchenko are out, while Ronaldinho is “unlikely to recover in time. I am considering giving Andrea Pirlo or Massimo Ambrosini a rest.

“If we managed to have Kaka fit for the second leg against Werder Bremen on Thursday, then we would certainly have an added advantage, especially considering their tactical system.

“Werder are a very specific shape and are excellent in the air. It will be an open game with everything to play for, without thinking that 0-0 could be enough for us to qualify.”

The derby defeat prompted reports that Ancelotti had offered his resignation and Leonardo could be lined up as his successor or even a caretaker Coach.

“Every year there is a moment in the season when people talk of my possible departure and 2009 will be no different,” shrugged the tactician.

“I have a good rapport with the club, am very tied to them and feel a great deal of affection towards me. I have made a few mistakes, it is possible I'll make more. The best Coach is the one who makes the least errors.”
