Sir Bobby: Becks belongs at Milan
Sunday 1 February, 2009

Former England manager Sir Bobby Robson has joined the chorus urging David Beckham to make his Milan move permanent.

The loan deal expires on March 9, but the Rossoneri have confirmed they would like Becks to split with LA Galaxy.

“Beckham has earned a vast fortune. Now he should consider spending a few million to buy himself out of LA Galaxy and keep his World Cup dream alive,” Robson told the Mail on Sunday.

“David has one last chance on the world stage - playing for England at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa - and he must do everything to satisfy that.

“If it means money coming out of his own pocket to facilitate the move to Milan, then so be it. If he goes back to America, the dream is over for David.”

England manager Fabio Capello was the one to originally suggest Beckham join Milan on loan during the MLS close season.

Becks has impressed in Serie A, including two goals in his last two games against Bologna and Genoa.

Capello was in the stands for that match with the Grifone at San Siro to observe the 33-year-old.

There are reports that Beckham is waiting to receive an England call-up for the February 11 friendly against Spain before making a decision.

Milan are forced into another choice at midnight tonight, as that is when they must hand in their UEFA Cup squad list.

If Beckham is on there, then it will be at the expense of another player, but at least he could be fielded against Werder Bremen on February 18 and 26.
