Conti: 'I'd hate to win like Inter'
Saturday 16 February, 2008

The bitter row between Inter and Roma is escalating after Bruno Conti joined in. “I prefer to lose 3-0 than win like them.”

The controversy over refereeing errors in the Nerazzurri’s favour has dominated headlines over the past few weeks.

Director Lele Oriali reacted to the media and Francesco Totti’s sniping by hitting back. “It’s not our fault if Roma lose 3-0 at Siena.”

Luciano Spalletti already reacted during his Press conference on Friday, noting that being that high up the table probably meant Inter were “suffering from oxygen depravation” and Oriali “should’ve shut up on this occasion.”

Now 1982 World Cup winner and Roma technical director Conti has weighed in on the row.

“I am certain Oriali already regrets what he said,” read the statement on RomaNews.

“However, seeing that these things were said, I maintain they were incredibly stupid and cannot help but cause irritation.”

The centre of the attention was the 3-0 defeat at little Siena that left Roma eight points adrift of the Serie A leaders.

It occurred on the same weekend that Inter beat Empoli 1-0 thanks to a penalty that refereeing designator Pierluigi Collina admitted should not have been awarded.

“I prefer to have a bad day at the office and lose 3-0 to a team fighting against relegation than to win games without deserving to,” snapped Conti.

“I feel more relaxed within myself with that scenario, I can assure you. We are having an exemplary season and never complained when little situations went against us.

“We will continue in that vein. If Inter, however, have this sort of reaction, then it means they have some personal problems.”
