Allegri calls for calm
Monday 16 February, 2009

Cagliari Coach Massimiliano Allegri has told the club’s fans not to get too carried away after his side climbed to seventh place in Serie A.

The Sardi beat Lecce 2-0 on Sunday to record their fifth victory in six games and are now being hyped as contenders for a European place.

“After today, we see things in a different way,” Allegri explained. “We have beaten a team that up until yesterday was one of our direct rivals in the battle against relegation.

“From now on, our objective is to consolidate this position, even if it will not be easy given that the teams close behind us also began with other objectives.

“Let’s leave talk of Europe alone. We have to continue doing our best without setting ourselves these goals.

“There are still three months until the end of the season,” he said. “It would be a mistake to lower our guard.”

Cagliari started the season with five straight defeats and were tipped to go down, so their recent run of form has surprised everyone.

They are back in action next weekend when they travel to Milan who lost 2-1 to Inter in the Derby della Madonnina last night.
