Italy Under-21 Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi is happy with his side after they drew 1-1 with Sweden last night.
The Azzurrini went ahead through a penalty from Cagliari striker Robert Acquafresca after 27 minutes.
Despite having chances to increase their lead, the Under-21s were pegged back midway through the second half when Pontus Wernbloom also scored from the spot.
We played a good first half, Casiraghi told reporters. I liked the boys a lot. However, in the second half we dipped.
I had made lots of changes, though, and the players that were on the pitch worked hard to make a breakthrough.
The former Lazio and Chelsea striker was also keen to praise Sweden who put the Azzurrini under considerable pressure after the interval.
From a physical point of view we suffered a lot, Casiraghi admitted. They put us in difficulty with long balls. That was their strength.
Casiraghi is under a lot of pressure to deliver results after the Under-21s disappointed under his tutelage at the Beijing Olympics.
