UEFA Cup, Group D - 3/12/08 (17.00 UK)
Udinese 2 - 1 Dinamo Zagreb
Quagliarella 5 (U), Obodo 77 (U), Biscan 92 (D)
Stadio Friuli

Fabio Quagliarella and Chris Obodo maintained Udinese's perfect UEFA Cup record, but the 2-1 win was marred by Dinamo Zagreb fans. Three were injured in drunken falls and the referee suspended play for five minutes when they repeatedly threw flares on to the field.

The Friulani needed a morale-booster after four consecutive Serie A defeats, although they were leading their UEFA group with a 100 per cent record from two games and would qualify top of Group D with a victory here. Dinamo had to win to have any hope of staying in the competition, as this was their last match with a victory and two losses.

The deadlock was broken just five minutes into the match. Antonio Di Natale's sudden burst of pace took him past his man down the left channel and he cut back for Fabio Quagliarella to fire in with his left foot from nine yards.

Moments later Christian Obodo's screamer from 30 metres stung the goalkeeper's palms as it arrowed towards the top corner, but Samir Handanovic had to do the same on a Mikic rocket.

A couple of Simone Pepe efforts and Di Natale's sidefoot finish after springing the offside trap were also smothered. Aleksandr Lukovic broke down that same left channel and rolled across for Butina to parry Pepe's shot.

Quagliarella sparked a rapid counter from Dinamo's set-piece, but went for glory himself and the angled drive skimmed the base of the far post.

Di Natale was unlucky straight after the restart, as he was stopped short by an incorrect offside flag when clear on goal.

Biscan escaped without a car despite a dreadful sliding tackle that ended with his studs on Pepe's ankles, while Lukovic was forced off with a suspected sprained ankle.

The Dinamo fans had repeatedly thrown flares on to the pitch and in to the area where the photographers were stationed behind the goal.

With 14 minutes to go, the Israeli referee in conjunction with the UEFA delegate called the two teams back into the locker room for five minutes until the situation calmed down. Biscan and Sokota also went under the Dinamo section and asked their fans to calm down, but the supporters threw objects at them, too.

There had already been drama before kick-off when three Dinamo Zagreb fans were injured in drunken falls. The most serious threw himself from the top tier of the stands. He was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with head trauma and a fractured nose. Another supporter fractured his leg, while the third got away with cuts and bruises.

The referee resumed play with a warning that the game would be abandoned definitively if another flare was thrown. It didn't break Udinese's concentration, as within seconds of the restart they scored the second goal. Pepe burst down the right flank and crossed low for Obodo's tap-in from six yards.

Handanovic smothered a Sokota spin from the penalty spot and hopeful long-range Badelj snapshot, but Udinese conceded a silly goal in stoppages. Biscan's header from a free kick was going wide until Diaz Felipe accidentally prodded it into his own net. UEFA gave it to Biscan, but effectively it was an own goal - Felipe's second in three days!
