| Goran Pandev's controversial goal was not enough, as Olympiacos beat Lazio 2-1 to all but destroy their Champions League hopes. This result, and Werder Bremen's victory over Real Madrid, leaves Delio Rossi's men propping up the table. This was a must-win game for the Biancocelesti. Emilson Cribari sat out a ban and Luciano Zauri joined the absentee list, but Aleksander Kolarov, Tommaso Rocchi, Massimo Mutarelli and Valon Behrami shook off injuries to start. Djordjevic and Kolarov's free kick tried from distance in the opening minutes, but it was a tense game with both sides breaking up the tempo in a series of free kicks. Olympiacos were clearly happy with a point and barely tried to go past the half-way line in the first half. Patsatzoglu headed a Djordjevic free kick well over, while Zewlaklow's crucial intervention prevented Mutarelli from netting Rocchi's assist. The deadlock was finally broken on the half-hour mark, as Stefano Mauri held up the ball, Rocchi got to the byeline and cut back for Pandev's smart finish. However, replays suggest the ball had already gone out of play before Rocchi managed to put it into the centre. Inevitably, this forced Olympiacos to shake off their shell and Marco Ballotta comfortably controlled a Patsatzoglu effort. It didn't take the Greeks long to find an equaliser, as five minutes after Pandev's opener Mutarelli's error set Lomana LuaLua on the counter and Stoltidis found Luciano Galletti unmarked to finish the move. Veteran goalkeeper Nikopolidis showed his reflexes are still sharp with a fine save on a lucky ricochet that favoured Pandev and Ledesma drilled wide for Lazio with the inside of his right foot. After the restart Gaby Mudingayi had a right-foot attempt and Nikopolidis was shaky on Ledesma's effort and Patsatzoglu was decisive to deny Guglielmo Stendardo on the resulting corner. Former Juventus and Lazio striker Darko Kovacevic came on for LuaLua. Mauri's searching pass freed Pandev, but the Macedonian's finish was too weak and Nikopolidis turned it out for a corner. However, just as Lazio were beginning to turn up the pressure, Olympiacos took the lead against the run of play. Substitute Kovacevic was able to tap in a Djordjevic cross from the left, massively complicating the Biancocelesti's qualification hopes. Stendardo turned a couple of promising headers over the bar as Lazio began to pour forward, but this left space at the back and Djordjevic almost made it 3-1 on the counter. In stoppages Mauri was inches away from getting the decisive touch to a Ledesma free kick.
