| Zlatan Ibrahimovic broke his Champions League drought with a brace to sink PSV 2-0, but Cristian Chivu and David Suazo saw red for Inter. The Nerazzurri needed to get back on track quickly after their shock 1-0 defeat at Fenerbahce, but still had Julio Cruz, Ivan Cordoba, Nicolas Burdisso and Douglas Maicon suspended along with the injured Marco Materazzi, Patrick Vieira and Nelson Rivas, but Cristian Chivu recovered from a shoulder problem for his first Champions League start for the club. Luis Figo cut in for Hernan Crespo in the opening minute, but he had penalty appeals waved away. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Walter Samuel had long-range attempts, but PSV came out of their shells with Julio Cesar at full stretch to parry a Perez angled drive. The turning point came after 14 minutes when Jan Kromkamp hauled down Ibrahimovic and the Swede got back up to convert the penalty, sending Gomes the other way. It was his first Champions League goal in an Inter jersey, as last season he had failed to hit the net, not scoring in this competition since December 2005. The Dutch outfit reacted immediately, Lazovic turning his header off target. But it was mainly Inter in this first half, Crespo just failed to get on the end of a dangerous Santiago Solari cross. Ibrahimovic took a long time to break his European duck, but the floodgates opened as he completed his brace on the half-hour mark. Javier Zanetti sparked the counter-attack from a PSV corner kick and Ibra rose above the crowd for a looping header on Figo's cross from the right. It was a strange trajectory and from his celebrations it is possible Ibrahimovic was trying to give the ball back to Crespo in the six-yard box. Jefferson Farfan's glancing header whistled wide of the upright, but while Inter sat back and tried to hit them on the break, the Dutch side could not take advantage of the extra space. After the restart PSV had a golden opportunity to open the game again, but Addo woefully missed a free header from close range. As Inter were focusing on the counter, they threw on the pacy David Suazo for Crespo and Esteban Cambiasso failed to make the most of Figo's assist. However, they were forced to play the final 25 minutes with 10 men as Chivu on his Champions League debut for the club was perhaps harshly sent off for two bookable offences. Nonetheless, Ibrahimovic set up Dejan Stankovic only for the Serb to blast over the bar and Suazo's solo effort was also off target. Julio Cesar was again tested by a Perez free kick and Suazo's screamer brought a splendid save out of Gomes. Suazo was determined to make the result safe and just before time his header skimmed the frame of the goal. However, as the final whistle went, Suazo was sent off for allegedly elbowing Salcido, so he too will be suspended.
