A dominant Fiorentina eased past Rosenborg 2-1 to book a tie against Everton in the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.

The score-line didn't do justice to the comfort of Fiorentina's qualification as they thoroughly outplayed the disappointing visitors.

Having earned a 1-0 win in Norway, Cesare Prandelli's men returned to Tuscany knowing that a stalemate would win them a last 16 tie against Everton or SK Brann.

Christian Vieri was still absent through injury along with Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, so Giampaolo Pazzini partnered Adrian Mutu, the scorer from the first leg, and went in search of his first European goal.

The hosts continued to pour forwards and Jarstein had to make an athletic diving save to deny Mutu who hit a fierce drive from the edge of the box.

Rosenborg were under siege and they had their 'keeper to thank once more when he made a sharp save from an Ujfalusi header after a lofted Liverani free-kick.

Pazzini skimmed the bar with a header from a Semioli cross and just minutes later they deservedly took the lead.

Marco Donadel located Liverani with a slide-rule cross and the Roman midfielder hit the left corner of the net for 1-0.

With Rosenborg reeling, Prandelli's men went for the kill and nearly doubled their lead twice before the interval.

Jarsetin made a flying save to deny Mutu and just a minute before the break Per Kroldrup managed to miss a gaping goal after a corner was flicked on by Pazzini.

Fiorentina continued to dominate in the opening stages of the second period and Rosenborg seemed to have no answer to the speedy interplay of Semioli and Liverani.

Mutu saw a 66th minute strike disallowed correctly for offside as the Viola continued to press.

The visitors' first chance of the game came with just over 20 minutes remaining as Yssouf Kone failed to make the most of a rare Liverani error and missed his header in front of goal.

January arrival Daniele Cacia replaced a frustrated Pazzini in the 72nd minute and he was to put the game beyond doubt.

The former Piacenza star scored his first goal in the Viola jersey when he reacted quickly to get on the end of a Manuel Pasqual cross and volley home from close range.

Rosenborg pulled one back as the Tuscans' defence relaxed and Kone headed home from close range, but the tie was safe.
