Official - Toro bring back Novellino
Monday 8 December, 2008

Torino have sacked Coach Gianni De Biasi and Walter Novellino has returned to the bench.

The Granata have been on awful form and slumped to a demoralising 4-1 defeat at home to Fiorentina yesterday.

Fans protested after the game and an emergency meeting between President Urbano Cairo and De Biasi didn't satisfy the chief.

Discussions between Cairo and Novellino, who is still under contract with Toro after his dismissal last year, went well this afternoon and the 55-year-old is ready to return to the hot seat.

The news was reported on Torino's website in a brief statement posted just after 5pm this afternoon.

“Torino would look to communicate that we have relieved De Biasi and his staff of their duties,” it reads.

“The club would like to thank the Coach for the work he has done over the years and wish him all the best for his professional future.

“The new boss is Novellino, who will take over from this moment and be unveiled to the Press at 1pm tomorrow afternoon.”

The man nicknamed 'Monzon' led Sampdoria to the UEFA Cup in his first Serie A season in 2004-05, but he didn't fare so well at Torino and his appointment is unlikely to appease the angry fans.
