Spanish side Espanyol have asked Napoli about the availability of striker Marcelo Zalayeta.
The Uruguayan hitman joined the Vesuviani from Juventus in 2007 and enjoyed initial success.
However, a serious knee injury last March set Zalayeta back and he has found it hard to return to the first 11 since returning to fitness last August.
Napoli's new boy German Denis has been preferred to Zalayeta as a partner for Ezequiel Lavezzi and the lack of playing time seems to have frustrated the experienced forward.
According to Sky Sport Italia 24, Espanyol have contacted Napoli to ask whether they would consider selling Zalayeta.
Sporting director Pierpaolo Marino may give the transfer the green light as he is reportedly lining up Venezuelan international Daniel Arismendi as a replacement.
