Ranieri recalls magic moments
Saturday 27 December, 2008

Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri has looked back on a positive 2008 and ahead to a ‘secret’ New Year.

“There are various things that remain in my mind from the last 12 months,” noted the gentleman tactician.

“The matches won against Milan, away to Inter and against Roma. Having achieved that, because achieved is the right word to use, the right to play in the Champions League preliminaries.

“Turning to this term, I have to say winning in Spain against Real Madrid. These are the highlights of 2008 that we will remember.”

The Turin giants finished third in Serie A on their return from the Second Division and are currently second in the top flight, six points adrift of Inter.

“Our most important quality over recent times was the strength given to us by our champions and the fact that all of the players we signed managed to fit in well.

“Even Tiago, who last term did not find the right pace to emerge, has managed to do so during this campaign.

“Everybody put their heart into it. Everybody sacrificed himself and gave his all for the team and this, I believe, is very important.”

The Old Lady have high hopes for the next six months seeing as they are still in the title hunt, as well as in the Champions League where they will face Chelsea in the last 16.

However, Ranieri is remaining tight-lipped on what he hopes the New Year will bring his Bianconeri brigade.

“Dreams should never be revealed,” he urged. “You must first have a thought and then work as hard as one can to make them come true.

“All I’ll say is that I expect 2009 to be very positive.”
