Juve want ‘Italian’ Amauri
Wednesday 24 December, 2008

Juventus chief Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has urged star striker Amauri to pledge his international future to Italy.

The Brazilian born ace should gain Italian citizenship in the New Year which will allow him to represent the Azzurri given that he’s still not been selected by the Selecao.

And although some purists believe that Amauri should only represent his country of birth, Cobolli Gigli would rather see him wear blue than yellow.

“It would be a great shame if a champion like him didn’t become Italian,” said the Old Lady President.

“Amauri has got better and better with each game for us and is now a real star for Juventus and Italian football.

“We’ve all seen how he plays, how he defends, how he attacks and how good he is through the number of goals he has scored.”

Amauri joined Juventus in the summer from Palermo and has been an instant hit with the Bianconeri.

The former Chievo and Napoli player has netted 11 League goals so far this term which means he’s grabbed 19 Serie A goals in the calendar year.

Only teammate Alex Del Piero, with 20 strikes in the top flight, has bagged more over the last 12 months.
