Milan ponder Brighi option
Wednesday 17 December, 2008

There are reports that Milan see Roma midfielder Matteo Brighi as a possible replacement for the injured Gennaro Gattuso.

Azzurri star Gattuso has been ruled out of action for around six months after undergoing surgery on his knee ligaments.

The absence of the pugnacious star will weigh heavily on the Rossoneri and they could look for a temporary solution in the New Year.

There were suggestions yesterday that the Diavolo were lining up Sampdoria captain Angelo Palombo, who is currently injured but expected to return to action in 2009.

But Samp have stressed that Palombo won't be leaving the club, forcing Milan to return to the drawing board.

According to this morning's La Gazzetta dello Sport, the next option on the Rossoneri shopping list is former Juventus ace Brighi.

In recent weeks, the Rimini native has shone for the Giallorossi in the absence of Alberto Aquilani.

However, Aquilani is close to returning to fitness, which may leave Brighi warming the bench.

Seeing as he signed a contract renewal until 2012 recently, Brighi is highly unlikely to leave the Eternal City on a permanent basis, but a loan deal is a possibility.
