Mourinho's wake-up call
Sunday 14 December, 2008

Jose Mourinho concedes Inter were too relaxed against Chievo and sends out a warning. “Adriano should think long and hard about what he wants.”

There has been renewed speculation about L’Imperatore’s future after he was sent home early from training – officially due to a thigh injury – and flew back to Brazil ahead of schedule for the Christmas break.

“He is injured and it is easier to recover from a muscular problem when it is warm and he is far away from controversy,” explained Mourinho.

“If I were him, I’d think long and hard whether he wants to stay here where he has a certain image or to leave. I await him for the start of training on January 2.”

That incident has not helped alleviate the tension within the Nerazzurri camp, which was evident when bottom of the table Chievo fought back from 2-0 down to 2-2.

“In the first half we scored immediately and then were too relaxed, thinking the game was already over.

“After they equalised, Chievo believed they could win it and we were gripped by fear, but the team managed to react and scored two goals,” he said after the 4-2 victory.

“After the 2-2 I told (director Lele) Oriali that it would not end with that result. We could’ve won it or lost.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic bagged the two late goals to see off the Flying Donkeys, but Mourinho was hardly thankful.

“Ibrahimovic started out with the tempo and concentration of a training ground exercise, but in the second half he improved the intensity and determination.

“I must thank the fans, as in the last 20 minutes they were our 12th man on the field.”
