Marino hails Udinese therapy
Sunday 14 December, 2008

Pasquale Marino believes locking the Udinese squad away for a few days will help them overcome their psychological crisis against Lazio.

The Friulani are in disastrous condition after five consecutive defeats, including home losses to relegation fodder Reggina and Chievo.

This prompted the club to put its squad in a pre-match ‘ritiro’ camp to prepare for today’s encounter.

“We worked well, talked over what is happening at the moment and how we must do our best to get out of this situation,” explained the Coach.

“The problem is more psychological than anything else, as we know that we have the quality to perform.

“The ritiro was useful, as it was accepted with enthusiasm by the players. They are responsible lads and knew this was the right time to come together.”

Marino’s men welcome Lazio to the Stadio Friuli and hope to end the dismal run of results that has seen them plummet down the standings.

“The problem now is getting a win so we can start again. The locker room atmosphere is united, the lads really care about the team shirt and are eager to get out of this hole. Clearly I expect a little more from those with experience, who have already gone through such difficulties.

“These points count a great deal, so I want to see less being caught in possession, which I saw a lot of in Bergamo,” he said of last week’s 3-0 defeat.

“The team has to take the initiative and be more concrete in the final third. Lazio are not going through a good moment either and will want to show their quality too. That is better for us, as they won’t clam up.”

Goran Pandev won’t make the trip with Lazio, but Udinese are also missing Mauricio Isla, Damiano Ferronetti and Cristian Zapata.
