Juventus' link with Bastian Schweinsteiger could be snuffed out as the German international is close to agreeing a contract renewal with Bayern Munich.
The Old Lady are expected to add to their midfield ranks in 2009 and Schweinsteiger is one of the Turin outfit's targets.
The 24-year-old's contract at the Allianz Arena expires this summer and he could be available on a free transfer.
However, the latest reports suggest that Schweinsteiger has nearly consented to extending his deal with Bayern until 2012.
“We hope or expect to make a statement early next week,” Bayern spokesman Markus Hoerwick said last night.
Juve may now turn their attentions to Werder Bremen star Diego or Barcelona's Xavi Hernandez.
