Week 36 - Reports

Ascoli 3-5 Grosseto
Grosseto are closer than ever to mathematic safety from the drop after this shock eight-goal victory at the Stadio Del Duca. It was clear from the start they meant business, as they were 3-0 up in the opening 19 minutes through Lazzari’s brace and a Danilevicius strike. Although Bernacci and Sommese got Ascoli back into it, Danilevicius scored a second time in first half stoppages. The final 11 minutes left it all to play for following Soncin’s penalty and got the home crowd on their feet for a thrilling encounter, but it left spaces at the back and Graffiedi put the result beyond doubt on the counter.
Scorers: Lazzari 3, 14 (G), Danilevicius 19, 45 (G), Bernacci 29 (A), Sommese 39 (A), Soncin pen 79 (A), Graffiedi 90 (G)

Avellino 1-2 Messina
Avellino fall to their third consecutive defeat and with this stoppage-time result Messina are almost mathematically safe from the threat of relegation. Bologna 1-1 Bari
Bologna’s hopes of catching Chievo at the top of the table crumbled despite a helping hand from Bari. The lead lasted only 12 minutes, as Lanzafame continued his impressive campaign with the equaliser.

Chievo are flying back into Serie A at this rate, as the weekend’s results all went in their favour. Frosinone 2-1 Mantova
Mid-table safety was already in hand for both these sides, but despite the defeat Mantova can look forward to Godeas’ Capocannoniere crown. Lecce 1-1 Pisa
Lecce managed to earn a late equaliser, but it’s still a result that leaves them further away from the leaders. Kutuzov had revived Pisa, who have been stuttering badly of late, by meeting Cerci’s cross from the right and the pressure continued on the home side for at least 20 minutes. They held out and, when Pisa ran out of steam, hit back through Tiribocchi turning in Diamoutene’s assist. The Salentini could have won it in stoppages, as Zanchetta’s free kick cracked against the crossbar.

Rimini 3-4 Ravenna
The Derby della Riviera was an absolutely spectacular match with one of the comebacks of the season. Trotta had given Ravenna a surprise lead, though after the break Rimini kicked into gear with Ricchiuti’s double and Vantaggiato. The turning point came when Paraschiv was sent off and Rossetti started the incredible battle from 3-1 down to 4-3 winners in the space of five minutes! Sforzini and Aloe (with help from a deflection off Vitiello) sent Rimini to the floor with a series of sucker punches.

Spezia 1-0 Cesena
This relegation dogfight certainly was tense, as it ended up with four red cards! Ola was the first to see red for the visitors after he threw a plastic water bottle at Camorani, although he was already on the bench due to an injury, then Lauro followed his teammate just moments before Guidetti’s goal for Spezia. He let the emotion of the moment get to him and was also sent off before Cardone’s dismissal left Cesena with nine men.
