Albinoleffe 2-0 Piacenza
Albinoleffe took their time to finally break down struggling Piacenza, but break away at the top of the table alongside Bologna after this victory. They had already put together several chances, including Carobbio hitting the crossbar with a free kick, before Cellini’s spectacular strike. Cacia wasted a golden opportunity to equalise and Colombo made sure of the points late on.

Ascoli went close to a rare away victory, but paid the penalty for wasting their chances. Pesce was their strongest figure, having hit the upright before he gave them the lead. Bari got back into it when Donda converted a penalty, although Taibi got a touch and was unable to keep it out.

Brescia 2-0 Modena
Brescia see the light at the end of the tunnel with their first win since October 27, but it was hard going despite favourable circumstances. Zoboli opened the scoring by nodding in Bazzani’s assist and just three minutes later Modena went down to 10 men for protesting so much at his booking that he received a second card. Nonetheless, the Canarini had the chance to equalise soon after when Zoboli handled in the box, but goalkeeper Viviano did brilliantly to palm Pinardi’s penalty on to the upright. Even against 10 men, Brescia only made the points safe in the final minute with Possanzini, ending a run of one point in five games.

Cesena 3-0 Frosinone
Cesena Coach Giovanni Vavassori picked up their first win of the season and can restore hope of avoiding relegation. It was one-way traffic at the Stadio Manuzzi, even though the deadlock was not broken until after the restart. Moscardelli opened the scoring and after Bocchetti’s dismissal they ran away with it thanks to 17-year-old Djuric and Ferretti.

Lecce’s promotion hopes took a beating with this defeat to struggling candidates Mantova. It was summer signing Fiore who decided the match, although he was forced off soon after by a muscular problem. The scoreline could so easily have been wider, as Tarana failed to tap in with only the goalkeeper to beat, then Corona thumped the upright. Lecce’s best chance fell to Zanchetta’s set-piece.

It was a fiery encounter in Sicily, but Messina emerged with three precious points to send them towards the play-off places. It was a bad start, as Anzalone had given Ravenna a surprise advantage, but Biancolino drew level in first half stoppages with his eighth goal of the season. Stendardo secured victory and in the closing stages both teams were reduced to 10 men with Pizzolla and Stendardo’s dismissal.

Pisa’s second consecutive home stalemate sees them drop off the promotion pace and there was a clear moment where it all went wrong. Serie B Capocannoniere Castillo had the chance to give them the lead on 51 minutes, but his penalty was saved and Maietta’s goalline clearance also prevented the follow-up. Cerci had wasted a good opportunity too, but Avellino nearly caused the upset of the weekend when Corallo hit the bar.

Chievo continue to march on the promotion places and end Spezia’s six-match unbeaten home run. Guidetti and Do Prado had threatened to give the home side the lead, but the Flying Donkeys grabbed full points with their only real effort on goal – a looping Ciaramitaro header.

Rimini’s run of four consecutive wins crashed to a halt against the other form team in Serie B. It was a close-run game and Rossetti made the most of a rare chance on the counter-attack, but the visitors saw more of the ball and were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Dei. Hitman Jeda was under the weather with a flu bug and failed to make his usual impact.

Bologna keep locked alongisde Albinoleffe at the top of the table after this difficult victory. It was not a good start at the Stadio Menti, as Adailton ballooned a penalty over the bar just 18 minutes in. Marazzina came to the rescue with his seventh goal of the season by meeting Bombardini’s cross to take home the points.
