Week 10 - Reports

Avellino 0-0 Albinoleffe
Albinoleffe’s bubble has well and truly burst, as they have earned just one point in their last three games. In fact, Avellino had the best chances of the first half with Kenesei repeatedly testing Marchetti. After the break Ruopolo and Serafini impressed, the latter seeing his header cleared off the line. The home side ended the match with 10 men, as Mengoni saw a straight red card for his tackle from behind on Ferrari.

Bologna 1-0 Treviso
Bologna notched up a third consecutive 1-0 victory over struggling Treviso, who have now lost five on the trot. Goalkeeper Calderoni risked another howler in the first half on Carrus, but was eventually beaten on 33 minutes by Marazzina’s looping header on an Amoroso cross. Carrus was unfortunate not to double the Rossoblu advantage after the break, as his sudden snapshot from 25 metres cannoned off the crossbar and Calderoni did well to parry Marazzina’s point-blank follow-up. Bologna shot-stopper Antonioli also impressed with a reaction save to deny Pia’s header from a free kick.

Bari held on for a point, as Cesena are still looking for their first win of the season. Both sides hit the frame of the goal in the first half. Croce’s free kick found Salvetti for a header that came off the upright, while Rajcic clipped the crossbar. Although the home team had the better of the second period, Gillet denied Ferretti’s strike.

Chievo 3-2 Ravenna
This was an exhilarating match at the Stadio Bentegodi with constant turnarounds. Chievo were the undoubted favourites to take the points and swept into an early lead through Marcolini’s spot-kick, but newly promoted Ravenna fought right back. On the stroke of half-time Cosenza snatched his second goal in as many games and soon after the restart Succi also converted a penalty. Just three minutes had passed before the Flying Donkeys brought Ravenna back down to earth with Mantovani. It looked set for a draw, but six minutes from time Cesar got his head to a corner kick to make it 3-2 for Chievo. It was a tense finale, as Rosi saw red after just eight minutes on the pitch.

Lecce 1-2 Brescia
The big game of the weekend saw the two promotion favourites go head to head in Salento. Munari thought he had opened the scoring after 17 minutes when his free kick smacked the underside of the crossbar and bounced back off the line, but it did not go over completely. Viviano parried a Vives strike into the path of on-form Tiribocchi to give Lecce the lead soon after. Brescia managed to draw level ahead of half-time when Santacroce got his head to Lima’s free kick. Bazzani had a goal disallowed, but Possanzini turned the game around completely in a splendid solo effort, keeping his cool to waltz past Rosati. The Rondinelle should have had the win under lock and key, but Possanzini and Bazzani wasted good chances.

Spezia 0-1 Rimini
Rimini left it to the very last second to secure a surprise victory away to Spezia. Jeda had the best opportunity of the first half for the visitors when he met Regonesi’s cross, but only found the frame of the goal. Guidetti really should have won it for Spezia in the final minutes, but after going round the ‘keeper he incredibly failed to turn into an empty net. It proved to be a disastrous miss, as in the last 10 seconds of the match Ricchiuti’s header gave Rimini all three points.

Triestina 1-2 Frosinone
Frosinone celebrated their fourth consecutive victory, but Triestina felt hard done-by. The home side had taken the lead with Granoche’s seventh of the season, pouncing on a loose ball in the area. However, Lodi and the referee had other ideas. Mezzano’s handling offence allowed Lodi to convert the first kick and in the final minute Dedic earned another spot-kick for his clash with Petras. Between the two, Graffiedi had a great opportunity with his free header on to the bar.

Vicenza 1-2 Modena
Pinardi’s two goals in 60 seconds proved enough to give Modena a precious victory at the Stadio Menti. He opened the scoring with a volley from 25 metres, taking advantage of Zancope’s uncertainty, then finalised a team move with his angled drive. Vicenza had the chance to get back into it before the break, but Schwoch fired a penalty on to the upright. Giubilato struck in stoppages from a corner kick, but it was too late and the Biancorossi are now without a win since May 5.
