The injury to David Trezeguet at Juventus is not bad news for all at the club, as Antonio Labbate notes
There is no doubt that the loss of David Trezeguet to injury is a massive blow for Juventus. With 160 goals so far for La Vecchia Signora, the fact that only four men have netted more than the Frenchman for the outfit illustrates just what the club will have to do without for the next two to four months.

Yet while the 31-year-old’s knee problems have restricted the plans of boss Claudio Ranieri, it will expand the opportunities of a regular first team shirt for Amauri and, possibly, little Sebastian Giovinco.

Amauri was Juventus’ big summer signing and, for some, a contentious one at that. Not that there were doubts over his quality as a player, but critics suggested that the Turin giants seemingly had no need for the big man. What would those same pundits say today?

The Brazilian-born attacker netted the only goal of the game in the win over Udinese on Sunday and was rather unfortunate to miss out on a starting shirt in midweek. Despite the fact that Amauri was arguably in better form than Trezeguet, Ranieri opted for the old guard partnership of Alessandro Del Piero and Trezeguet.

The No 10 responded with an outrageous free-kick strike, but the evening was a little more problematic for his fellow veteran striker. Up against a very tactically aware Zenit St Petersburg side, Trezegol – as gifted as they come in front of goal – suffered one of his more anonymous evenings.

But now that there will be no Trezeguet for the immediate future, Ranieri won’t be forced to rotate his attacking options. While that may weaken the side in terms of increasing player fatigue, it’ll be easier to juggle three strikers – which include the humble Vincenzo Iaquinta – rather than four where Del Piero, Trez and Amauri would all expect to play.

Turning to Giovinco, the absence of David may not necessarily translate as an opportunity for the Azzurrini starlet to play. Yet the Atomic Ant hasn’t featured in Serie A or in the Champions League proper yet this term.

In fact, he’s even struggled to make the bench at times. But with one attacking option less in the squad, we may at last have the chance to see what Sebastian can do at the highest level. And that is an exciting prospect for all of us.

Could people please give Seba some breathing space? Trezeguet being injured has absolutely no bearing on whether or not Seba gets a run for Juve. His agent is just as bad.

Let’s state a couple of actual facts about Seba Giovinco. He still looks like a raw recruit that cannot get his head up when he dribbles with the ball. He's very talented, but raw as hell, and is by no means ready for a starting place on the first team.

We'd all love to think that he's gonna be Del Piero circa '96, but that just isn't the case. He's got the potential, but he needs the time to develop his game further.

The way he's being touted at the moment, disheartenment looks like his future and we could be looking at another Cassano situation rather than heralding in the next big thing. Gio needs time outside of the spotlight to develop...
