| | | | | | Friendly: Mirko double lifts Catania |
Friday 8 August, 2008 | | Promising predator Mirko Antenucci was the star as Catania beat Serie C side Paganese 2-1.
Walter Zenga fielded a similar 11 to the team that beat Pisa last week and saw his men labour to victory against modest opposition.
Catania keeper Albino Bizzarri was called into action after just 15 minutes to deny ex-Napoli man Mirko Taccola.
Two minutes later, Giuseppe Mascara showed some skill to find Romanian international Nicolae Dica, but he fluffed his lines when he had a good chance to shoot.
Giovinto Plasmati and Pablo Ledesma werent at their best and Ezio Capuanos minnows managed to frustrate the favourites during a miserable first half, which ended 0-0.
Man of the match Antenucci was inserted for the second period and he turned the game.
After 66 minutes the ex-Venezia man tied the Paganese defence in knots and was brought down for a penalty, which he converted with ease.
And Antenucci doubled the lead after 74 minutes when he took full advantage of an impeccable Marco Biagianti ball.
Paganese scored a consolation goal with three minutes left when Ruggiero De Lorenzo headed home from a corner.
But it was nine wins in 10 for Catania, whose next game is against Romanian Second Division outfit Progresul Bucharest on August 10.
