Reports: Mutu ready to extend
Monday 4 August, 2008

Reports in Italy insist that Fiorentina’s star striker Adrian Mutu is ready to extend his contract until 2012.

The Romanian ace was a summer target for Roma and seemed to be headed to the Eternal City but the Viola refused a bid of £18m.

Now Mutu has accepted that he will be staying in Florence and is reportedly willing to put pen to paper on a new four-year deal.

The new agreement will see a notable pay rise, but nowhere near the sum that Mutu originally requested.

Mutu, who is facing a mammoth fine for taking cocaine while under contract at Chelsea, had asked for his salary to be almost doubled before Euro 2008.

However, the former Parma man now seems happy to accept a much more modest wage of around £2.2m per year.

The signature will be a huge boost for the Gigliati who tied star goalkeeper Sebastien Frey to a long-term contract last week.

An official announcement is expected before Thursday evening.
