Zanetti respects Group B minnows
Friday 29 August, 2008

Javier Zanetti insists that Inter must take their Champions League Group B opponents seriously in spite of a favourable draw.

The Italian champions were handed Werder Bremen, Panathinaikos and Anorthosis Famagusta.

While Bremen and Panathinaikos are familiar faces, it is the first time that Cypriot minnows Anorthosis have made it this far.

“I don't know Anorthosis but they have made it to the Champions League and shouldn't be underestimated,” Zanetti told the Inter Channel.

“The group will be tight but we certainly have the potential to do well and to go through.

“We played Werder Bremen some years ago and we have some good memories against them, which we hope to repeat

“But we want to take things one game at a time and to try and qualify as soon as possible.

“The biggest mistake would be to dismiss our opponents because we know that unpleasant surprises are always just around the corner in football,” he concluded.

Inter kick off their 2008-09 Champions League campaign with a trip to Greece to face Panathinaikos on September 16.
