Zampa forgives Palermo exit
Sunday 24 August, 2008

Fiery Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has calmed down after storming out during their Coppa Italia elimination by Ravenna.

The Sicilians were knocked out at the first hurdle by a Serie C outfit at the Stadio Barbera last night and the patron left before the final whistle of the 2-1 defeat.

“It was naturally a Palermo side with several different problems, but it was not an easy game and I think anyone would've had problems against that Ravenna,” said Zamparini.

“These are teams who clam up and are very difficult to break down. We had many chances to score, but their goalkeeper was quick and also fortunate.”

Coach Stefano Colantuono may well be feeling the pressure after some dismal pre-season results and this humiliating Coppa exit.

“We had so many opportunities, but at the same time made mistakes, perhaps because we were too eager to get back in the game,” said the tactician.

“We just gave Ravenna two chances and paid for them with our elimination. Ravenna did well to close up and defend their lead, but we were unlucky.

“I am not unhappy with the performance, so now we must deal with this defeat and try to correct the few things we got wrong.”
