Cagliari have extended Coach Massimiliano Allegri’s contract to June 2011, ending speculation of a Milan switch.
There were reports this morning that the tactician would be poached by the Rossoneri for next season after leading his side from bottom of the table to a UEFA Cup spot.
Instead he has committed his future to Cagliari with a deal until June 30 2011.
“Six months ago Allegri signed a blank contract with Cagliari, it was a handshake deal he took with the club,” read President Massimo Cellino’s statement.
“This week we made official a two-year contract based on planning for the future of this team. We are proud and honoured by the attention given to our Coach by big clubs, but we confirm Allegri will remain on the Rossoblu bench until June 30 2011.”
Allegri risked the sack when he lost his first five games of the season, but has since turned them around to within just nine points of the Champions League places.
