Inter striker Adriano has spoken for the first time since going AWOL in Brazil to confirm that he is alive and well.
The former Parma predator went missing after a World Cup 2010 qualifier against Peru.
Given Adri's previous problems with depression and alcoholism, there were fears for the hitman's safety, but he is back at his mother's house in Rio de Janeiro.
“So much has been said about me - I heard that I was dead,” Adriano told a journalist.
“But I am fine and I am at my mother's house with my family. I had some problems in Italy recently but I don't want to go into details.
“I can only assure you that it had nothing to do with my break-up with my ex-girlfriend Joana.”
Adriano's future remains a mystery, but his days in an Inter shirt seem to be numbered.
Even before his disappearance, the volatile forward stated that he would have to think carefully about renewing his contract with the Nerazzurri when it expires in 2010.
