Juve eye Eastern expansion
Monday 6 April, 2009

Juventus are hoping to extend their fanbase in Asia by giving a trial to the 20-year-old Shanghai Shenhua defender Yang Yun.

The Chinese youngster reportedly first came to the Bianconeri's attention during their Asia Pacific Tour last summer.

“He is not very well known even in China,” Oberto Petricca, his agent, admitted. “I have only seen him play a couple of games.

“This operation began with the tour Juventus went on last year,” Petricca explained. “Yun is not only valuable in a technical sense, I believe he represents the general synergy between the Bianconeri and Shanghai Shenhua.”

Juventus are believed to have entered into a feeder club arrangement with Shanghai Shenhua, the 2008 Chinese Super League runners up.

“Yun will make interest in Juventus grow in China, this boy will become a valid instrument of communication between the two countries,” Petricca added.

“It's important for Chinese footballers to get to know a more professional reality. Shanghai Shenhua are a dynamic club that already has links with Sydney United. They are open to links abroad,” Petricca concluded.

Other clubs in Europe have contracted Asian players to boost their presence in the region, most notably Manchester United with Dong Fangzhuo.
