Ancelotti looks to Dinho
Sunday 5 April, 2009

Carlo Ancelotti is confident Ronaldinho can return to his best and have a central role for Milan next season as well.

The Brazilian has been benched repeatedly in recent months and came on as a substitute to score a lucky goal in tonight’s 2-0 win over Lecce.

“He did very well in the first half of the campaign and gave an important contribution to the team, then this heel injury kept him out for a month and he lost his form,” explained the Coach.

“I can guarantee is he much better than before he went on international duty and will soon get back to his best. We are focusing on him for next season too, as he is young and can take even more hold of this squad.”

The Rossoneri were struggling badly before two stoppage-time headers finally pushed Lecce aside.

“We were too slow in the first half and created very little, whereas we had more heart and soul in the second. Ronaldinho had more space down the left and that is his natural position.”

Vice-President Adriano Galliani stated this was “Ancelotti’s victory” due to the tactical changes he made, although the boss admits the future is still uncertain.

“I thank Galliani, even though we lost a bit of sharpness with those changes and had to throw everything we had at Lecce. It went well, but I’d prefer to keep more balance in the side.

“We will decide together whether or not it is the right thing to continue our rapport. It seems to be that both parties want to carry on.

“It’s likely some mistakes were made in the past and we will come together to make the decisions, as we always have done.

“Milan’s future is tied to the fixture list, as if we qualify for the Champions League that will allow us to make certain decisions that otherwise would be different. So it’s pointless discussing it now, we have to wait and see before planning for next season.”

Third place will qualify the Rossoneri automatically under new rules, but before those late goals they were only one point clear of Genoa in fourth.
