Totti silences his critics
Sunday 5 April, 2009

Francesco Totti dedicated his brace to himself “and all the critics who are against me. I'm not finished yet.”

The Roma captain converted two penalties to sink Bologna 2-1 and keep his team in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

“I dedicate these two goals to myself and all the critics who are against me. I am happy with what I have achieved and can still improve.

“Many nasty things have been said about me, but I am satisfied with what I am doing for myself and for the team.”

This week has seen Totti under pressure with claims Roma do not want to renew his contract - which expires in 2010 - over fears injuries are cutting short his career.

“Fortunately I'm not finished yet,” he grinned bitterly. “I still have a great deal to give for my own career and for Roma.

“I will stay as long as possible on the playing field. I'm pleased with what we achieved today, as we were coming off some negative results.

“We are still behind Fiorentina and Genoa, but will try to notch up as many points as we can.”

The Giallorossi remain in fifth place and, as their rivals also won today, are still five points adrift of fourth.
