Colantuono has Lazio leanings
Wednesday 30 April, 2008

Stefano Colantuono maintains that he is “married to the Palermo project”, but is keeping one eye on the Lazio post.

Colantuono returned to the Palermo bench at the end of March, having been replaced by Francesco Guidolin back in November.

“President Maurizio Zamparini distanced himself from me after the heavy defeat against Juventus – he was very angry, as is his character,” he explained on Radio Spazio Aperto.

“But I had the side in sixth place when I left and Zamparini admitted he had made an error when he brought me back and now he has faith in me, so I am married to this project.

“At the start of the season, people were talking about the Champions League. But perhaps that was an unrealistic aim because this squad still needs to mature.”

Although he is bound to the Stadio Renzo Barbera by his contract, there have been repeated suggestions that Colantuono could jump ship to Lazio, where Delio Rossi is under fire.

“I am under contract at Palermo until 2009 and the President has guaranteed that I will be the boss next year,” the former Atalanta tactician said.

“At the moment I am happy to be the Rosanero boss because they are a big club who are just below the elite.

“Nonetheless, you can never say never in football and Lazio are an important outfit.

“I can say that the Lazio President is a nice person who knows what he is doing. And sporting director Walter Sabatini is a friend – he brought me to Sambenedettese.”
