Mauro Zarate, the 22-year-old Argentine striker, has signed a contract with Lazio, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
The talented youngster has enjoyed a fine first season in Italy, scoring 14 goals in 31 appearances for the Biancocelesti.
He is currently on loan from Qatari side Al-Saad, who are in the final stages of negotiations to sell Zarate to Lazio.
The two clubs have yet to decide on a fee, but the news that Zarate has signed a contract for Lazio strengthens their hand considerably.
Al-Saad were hoping to start a bidding war with other interested parties but they can no longer do so now Zarate has committed to Lazio.
Zarate has reportedly signed a five-year deal with the club worth over £10m net that will officially expire on June 30 2014.
A £40m Spanish style minimum fee release clause has been inserted into his contract to scare off any clubs interested in signing him.
Lazio President Claudio Lotito hopes to wrap up the deal by the start of next week and is expected to pay £16m for Zarate.
