Buffon thinks over big money move
Thursday 2 April, 2009

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon has refused to rule out a move away from the Bianconeri this summer.

The 31-year-old Italy international, who inspired the Azzurri to World Cup victory in 2006, is being courted by Manchester City.

Buffon was the subject of a colossal bid from the English outfit in January, but he rejected the move, underlining his commitment to Juventus.

The deal, said to be worth in excess of £50m, could be back on, though, according to Turin based daily newspaper Tuttosport.

They cite figures published by English bookmakers, who yesterday shortened the odds of Buffon moving to Lancashire.

When asked if he would still consider leaving the Bianconeri, Buffon replied: “If I leave Torino it will be to go abroad for a head spinning figure.”

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli yesterday reminded Buffon that he has a contract with the Turin giants, but also told his No 1 goalkeeper that it's up to him to decide his future.

“He has a contract with Juventus, to whom he has given, is giving and will give a lot,” Cobolli Gigli said.

“He is right to reason fatalistically, though. If one day something incredible should happen, we would have to evaluate it.

“There is absolutely nothing to it at the moment,” Cobolli Gigli concluded. “But it's an intelligent idea to mull over such a thing.”

Buffon joined the Bianconeri from Parma in 2001 for a £32.6m fee that remains the highest ever paid for a goalkeeper.
