Croatia Coach Slaven Bilic is being lined up for the Chelsea job, making the prospect of Carlo Ancelotti leaving Milan more distant.
The Blues are looking to replace interim manager Guus Hiddink, who is set to resume his role with Russia at the end of the season.
Ancelotti has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the last few months and was even rumoured to have accepted the vacant position there.
However, according to the Sun, Peter Kenyon, the Chelsea chief executive, has made contact with Bilic, with a view to offering him the job.
Ancelotti has a contract with Milan until June 2010 by which time he will have become the club's longest serving trainer.
The Italian Press remain convinced he will leave in the summer, though, and expect Luciano Spalletti to replace him.
