Juve renew Alonso interest
Wednesday 29 April, 2009

Juventus will once again try and persuade Liverpool and Spain midfielder Xabi Alonso to move to Turin this summer, according to the Sun.

The Bianconeri were in talks with the 27-year-old former Real Sociedad youngster at the end of last season when he looked set to leave Anfield.

Liverpool were then doing everything to replace Alonso with Aston Villa and England midfielder Gareth Barry.

The Reds are expected to try again for Barry this summer despite Alonso's excellent performances this season.

Uncertainty over his future has led Juventus to get back in touch and self-proclaimed Italian super agent Ernesto Bronzetti is at the heart of the deal.

“I will try and bring in Alonso for the Juventus central midfield,” Bronzetti told the Sun. “There was a long chase last summer for his signature, of course, so it is a road we know.

“Pairing him with Momo Sissoko would be a title-winning midfield. The problem is that it would be very hard and expensive to take such an important player away from Liverpool.”

On failing to land Alonso last summer, Juventus brought in Christian Poulsen, the veteran Denmark international, from Sevilla.

Poulsen has suffered several niggling injuries and, as a consequence, has failed to hold down a regular place in the Juventus starting line up.
