Ancelotti welcomes Flamini
Saturday 26 April, 2008

Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti sees Mathieu Flamini as “an excellent signing” and gives his views on Gennaro Gattuso and Ronaldinho.

“He is an excellent player,” the Coach said of the Arsenal midfielder. “When he played against us, he showed great dynamism and ability. Someone like him would be of use to any side.

“And, seeing as he will be out of contract, that would be an excellent signing for us.”

Juventus are also interested in picking up the want-away Gunners star who looks set to reject the offer of a new contract at the Emirates.

There has been transfer talk around Gattuso, who could move on for a new challenge in England or Spain.

“We will talk about it at the end of the season. I continue to believe he will remain at Milan at the end of the day. He may have a few worries at the moment, but Gattuso is too important for Milan and is just as crucial as Kaka.

“Nobody puts in the heart and soul that Gattuso does and he is irreplaceable. There is absolutely no way we would let him go.”

The negotiations for Ronaldinho seem to have hit a brick wall this week, as Barcelona are requesting £40m for the package deal with Gianluca Zambrotta, whereas the Rossoneri are offering half that.

“Ronaldinho is a great champion and two years ago he was wanted by everyone because he was the European Player of the Year,” continued Ancelotti on Milan Channel.

“He has had a bad year, but that’s not the point. Ronaldinho is useful to us if he works hard and settles in to the squad.”

Meanwhile, Milan have a four-point gap to close up from fourth-placed Fiorentina to capture that Champions League spot and take on Livorno, the side that ruined Roma’s Scudetto dreams last week.

“We will be facing a team that cares a great deal about this game and Livorno have already shown what kind of an approach they have against Roma. They’ll try to make the most of Alessandro Diamanti and Francesco Tavano’s chances.

“We will field more or less the same line-up that beat Reggina with Daniele Bonera at right-back, while Marek Jankulovski is now fit for the bench. Pippo Inzaghi and Kaka will start, as they are fresh and dangerous.

“To carry on hoping we need to win all four games and hope for the best. We are in stand-by this season, as it seems excessive to call it a failure after taking home the European Super Cup and Club World Cup.”

Marcos Cafu and Dario Simic were not called up, while Nelson Dida, Emerson, Serginho, Paolo Maldini and Ronaldo are injured.

Milan squad: Fiori, Kalac, Offredi, Oddo, Bonera, Digao, Favalli, Kaladze, Nesta, Jankulovski, Brocchi, Ambrosini, Gattuso, Gourcuff, Kakà, Pirlo, Seedorf, Gilardino, Inzaghi, Pato, Paloschi.
