Aimo Diana was one of Walter Novellino’s favourites, but even he believes Gianni De Biasi will turn Torino’s season around.
The midfielder had already worked with Novellino at Sampdoria and Palermo before coming to Turin during the January transfer window.
“We always thought positive, even when Novellino was in charge, but unfortunately the results were not great. In any case, we have four more games to do well.”
Tactician De Biasi took over in the middle of last week and in his first game Toro were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Inter after dominating the game.
“When there is a change of Coach there is always a shake-up for the whole club. There is no doubt denying it happened,” continued Diana.
“I am very sorry for Novellino, but we are now all at De Biasi’s disposal. He desperately wants to achieve safety and we are all behind him, just as we were with the preceding Coach.
“Perhaps Novellino has been the best Coach I have ever had, but right now we have another tactician who I respect very much, so we must continue forward with courage.”
Novellino was fired after a dismal run of results saw them slip to within touching distance of the relegation zone.
“We too can’t figure out how we got into that negative streak. In my view we should reflect on the two games where we showed our worst side the one against Cagliari, where basically we didn’t even get out of the locker room, and the second half at Genoa.”
The fixture list has not been kind to the Granata, who must face Roma, Napoli, Livorno and Fiorentina in the final rounds.
“My teammates managed to win in Rome last season and hopefully we can repeat that feat. We’ll need to have more anger and desire than Roma and aim to attack them the same way we approached Inter.”
