Zauri wants Coppa glory
Tuesday 22 April, 2008

Lazio defender Luciano Zauri is determined to lead the club to glory in this season's Coppa Italia ahead of their semi-final.

The Biancocelesti drew 0-0 with Inter in the first-leg of the tie and are due to resume hostilities at the Stadio Olimpico on May 7.

“Winning the Coppa Italia is very important, it would be fundamental to our season. Now, we have to think to the second-leg, and then we will concentrate on the Final,” said Zauri.

The 30-year-old also dismissed claims that the competition is no longer taken seriously by the bigger clubs and their fans.

“There are always those who say it isn't important, but the truth is that everyone would like to win it,” insisted the versatile full-back.

Lazio last won the Coppa Italia under current Inter boss Roberto Mancini in 2004 and could face Cup holders and city rivals Roma in the Final if they overcome the Nerazzurri.

Speaking at a school in Osteria Nuova, Zauri had some interesting lessons to pass on, talking in particular about his disdain for the terzo tempo.

The new initiative brought in by the Italian FA requires players to form a tunnel and shake hands at the end of a game in a demonstration of good sportsmanship.

“Every form of obligation is something unpleasant. It takes a lot to do it at the end of a game, even when the final whistle has blown tension is still high,” he explained.
