Palermo striker Amauri would like to represent Italy at this summer’s European Championship.
The 27-year-old, who was born near the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, has lived in Italy for over seven years and has applied for an Italian passport which should arrive in the next few weeks, allowing him to play for the Azzurri.
“If Donadoni were to call me, I would, of course, go with La Nazionale,” hinted the South American.
The former Parma and Napoli hitman has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 13 goals, attracting the attention of Italy, Brazil and a string of top European clubs.
Despite the interest, Amauri is keeping his feet on the ground and wants to finish the current campaign before considering his future.
“I don’t know where I’ll go,” he admitted. “It’s a question that, perhaps, you should ask my President.
“There is a lot of talk but there is nothing concrete. I am a Palermo player and I would like to concentrate on our final games of the season.”
Juventus are the frontrunners in the race to win the flamboyant scorer’s signature and Amauri indirectly confirmed his desire to move to Turin by lavishing praise on Bianconeri bandiera Alex Del Piero.
“I have always considered Del Piero as a formidable footballer and this season he is demonstrating why,” he added.
“Notwithstanding his age, he is having a great championship, I respect and appreciate him even more for this.”
